these things rock. I bought one set for our BMW 325i and 335d. they are quick to install and to take off, especially with the quick release. i would say that folks who improperly install them are probably the ones having trouble. you have to take care to ensure they are wrapped around the inside of the tire and then slowly take off so the chains have a chance to center themselves and tighten up appropriately.

I have studded tires on my car that I only put on if snow or ice is forecast as fairly eminent. In the Seattle area, that is very hit and miss! This year I was in a pretty bad snow and ice situation and the studded tires helped, but I still slid and was nervous. It was one time I would have definitely used chains if I had them. Finally I broke down and decided to purchase some. I couldn't be happier with these Thule ones.
I looked at a local tire store at the kind that you don't need to drive over and was confused by its configuration. Also they were made in China..sorry but I have never seen anything made of (inferior) metal manufactured in China that I would trust my car and family to. The Thule chains are made in Italy, so that was a plus for me.
The price of these at first seem a bit daunting. I had to do some more research before plunking down big bucks for these. I watched all the videos I could find online about this product and was impressed by what I saw. There really were many instances of "20 second" installation, and all under a minute. I was also intrigued by the self-tightening and self-centering feature. It is a pain enough to install chains normally without having to worry about stopping to check a few more times.
My shipment arrived on a night that it started snowing so it was perfect timing. I am glad I watched the videos, it was very helpful for me in learning although I am sure the printed instructions are fairly self explanatory. I found that the most difficult part was the chains hanging up under the back of the tires after I pushed them behind the tires as instructed. I did better on the second or third try. Really once the back hook is on, the rest is pretty foolproof.
I waited a few hours for the snow to accumulate. I drove around the block one time to see if this magic self-tightening thing really worked. I really was amazing! Both tires were tightened and centered. I drove around the block a few more times to test the ride. The ride was more quiet and smooth than I was expecting.
Now I was confident enough to take on the steepest, windiest hill around my house. As I drove up I saw where a car had slid off the road. I just kept my slow steady speed and was not nervous at all. On the way down I saw where a car had also slid off the road and hit a fence. Again, I was perfectly calm and my car was gripping the road fine. Once on flat ground again I tested the braking. I was very impressed by the stopping distance. This was in snow with no solid ice, but I feel confident that they will handle very well in ice.
I can only conclude by saying that these are definitely worth the extra cost due to quality, ease of use and amazing features!

I have them for my Lexus Ls430 to use in the snow weather condition since year 2010 and now I just hates it everytime I have to put it on. The way it build makes it extremely difficult to put on especially in a cold weather. You have to circule all the chains and wires from the back of the wheel and it is very very hard to have the two metal piece buckled up together while you work behind the wheel and under the car. With the always extreme temperature, your hands will get tired and frozen before you buckle those two piece together. After that, you have to pull those chains around the tire to tighten it up. The ride is very rough and I'm always afriad its gonna brush against something and brake it. It is only after a year and it's already getting rust on the metal parts. The spring in the sucket part from the buckle of the securing wire has the potential to stuck after it gets salt in it and either won't lock up securely or get loose during the ride and put some damage to your car.
The self tighten wire on the outside viberate like hell and will damge the painting on the alloy wheel.
It does help you to move if you happens to stuck some where on the snowy country road. It is easy to take them off tho after you put them on. Keep a pair of thick thermal insulated gloves and you definity need it while putting the chains on. I will upload some pictures later on to better describe the problem.
Over all, I feel it's a waste of money to get nothing but trouble. Maybe you should look for the ones that are easy to put on in cold weather and have less running noise.
